ADD Technologies obtains the AiP (Approbation de Principe) from the classification society Bureau Veritas for the installation of propulsion kits on the cranes of bulk carriers*.

The kits consist of an AWP system propulsion wing and adapters for the crane and the ship's deck. The innovative AWP system propulsion wing is an asymmetrical, semi-rigid wing that is thickened by inflation.  It is reversible edge to edge as easily as a flexible sail.

Reliable, high-performance and never fasey, it provides stability and safety in its operation for the vessel and its crew. The AWP system wing meets the requirements and constraints of the industrial marine sector.

The ADDWINGSAIL kit has been designed in conjunction with a shipowner, based on proven expertise, and is easy to install on ships. It ensures rapid, economical deployment of auxiliary propulsion without immobilising the ship or requiring structural reinforcement. Standardised components guarantee easy maintenance, whatever the sea routes envisaged.

Using ADDWINGSAIL helps to comply with International Maritime Organisation regulations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships. ADDWINGSAIL enables shipowners and charterers to commit to a sustainable transport model with complete confidence. The energy developed by the system reduces fuel consumption by up to 30%.

Obtaining the AiP is a major milestone and the result of close collaboration right from the start of the project: Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, a benchmark in industrial shipping, the crane supplier and start-up ADD Technologies.

ADD Technologies, winner of the 2023 France 2030 i-Nov innovation competition run by Bpifrance in partnership with ADEME, has secured funding for its ADDWINGSAIL project. The Brittany-based company can now turn its attention to the production of 330 m2 wings to equip the first bulk carrier in 2024.

At the same time, the company is raising funds to continue its development.
